January makes a fresh start for all of us. In the messages for the month, we will make a fresh start in remembering the things of God that are revealed as vital and enduring for us. We will make a fresh start in our Administrative Council and in our ministry together. You can see this and more in our January Newsletter and Calendar.
You can also be reminded of those who will be serving as nominated leaders in the year ahead and of our 2018 budget.
Also, you can read the sermon from December 31st on How to Make Holy Resolutions, if you would like some guidance from the Bible about making 2018 a truly new year.
Phil Deane reported that the team from Laurel Hill UMC fed 196 people today and just had enough food. The crew really worked well together. Those who went downtown were Billy & Judy Walker, Theresa and David Duke, Patrice Moore, Gail Dagenhart, and Phil Deane. Thanks go out to David Ogburn for organizing things and to Barbara Wendel for picking up the food and supplies.
If you would like to be a part of this vital ministry, our homeless feeding ministry takes place every time there is a fifth Tuesday in the month. The next opportunity to serve is April 30th!
As pastor of Laurel Hill United Methodist Church there is only one week left for donations towards our Mission Partnership with the MCV Medical Center Children’s Emergency Room. Books, DVDs, and stuffed animals are all being received through this Sunday, October 28th.
Then, next week is full of outreach and service together. Tuesday, October 30th a group from Laurel Hill will be Feeding the Homeless as part of the Caritas Ministry. Wednesday, October 31st we’ll be hosting TRUNK OR TREAT for the children of our community and then Saturday, November 3rd we will have our Fall Mission Dinner & Auction. You don’t want to miss any of these great opportunities for service.
But, as I think of these immediate opportunities I’m casting my eyes out into 2013. The first week of January, Karen and I will be headed to Dunwoody, Georgia for the 2013 Congress on Evangelism and then sharing a week apart to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Yes, I am already excited about that.
Then, in February 2013, I am joining a group from Laurel Hill UMC and the Friends of Barnabas Foundation for a medical mission to Honduras. Please be in prayer for the saving work we will accomplish in Jesus’ name! Also, look for the ways you can support those who will be involved with this mission trip. More news on that, coming soon…
