Starting Over in September
September is a wonderful month. Our children are headed back to school. Football season is back. Yet, with all that is going on we are active in the work of the kingdom! We are finishing our summer and starting our fall in a dynamic way as we host the CARITAS families from August 29th – September 6th. During the month, you are invited to a special Community Worship service as our brothers and sisters down at Four Mile Creek Baptist Church welcome us to their 10:00 AM service on September 20th. Our choir will join with theirs as we lift our voices together in praise to the Living God! That is also the second day of the UCI World Bicycle Championships. We welcome our visitors from around the world here on the 19th and the 20th to Varina.

Are You Ready for August?
We will continue our adventure through the Gospel of John this month and celebrate some very important ministry events, including our Vacation Bible School: Outback Rock (Registration starting 5:00 PM on Friday, July 31st – Sunday’s 11:00 AM Worship and First Sunday Luncheon) and the renewal of ministry with CARITAS! Read all about it in our August Newsletter and follow on this month’s Calendar.
Looking Forward to Mission & Ministry
As pastor of Laurel Hill United Methodist Church there is only one week left for donations towards our Mission Partnership with the MCV Medical Center Children’s Emergency Room. Books, DVDs, and stuffed animals are all being received through this Sunday, October 28th.
Then, next week is full of outreach and service together. Tuesday, October 30th a group from Laurel Hill will be Feeding the Homeless as part of the Caritas Ministry. Wednesday, October 31st we’ll be hosting TRUNK OR TREAT for the children of our community and then Saturday, November 3rd we will have our Fall Mission Dinner & Auction. You don’t want to miss any of these great opportunities for service.
But, as I think of these immediate opportunities I’m casting my eyes out into 2013. The first week of January, Karen and I will be headed to Dunwoody, Georgia for the 2013 Congress on Evangelism and then sharing a week apart to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Yes, I am already excited about that.
Then, in February 2013, I am joining a group from Laurel Hill UMC and the Friends of Barnabas Foundation for a medical mission to Honduras. Please be in prayer for the saving work we will accomplish in Jesus’ name! Also, look for the ways you can support those who will be involved with this mission trip. More news on that, coming soon…
