Finishing the Year Well

Yesterday, we had a wonderful group head down to Greater Mount Moriah Baptist Church to conduct our last Homeless Feeding for 2015. This is one of the ways we regularly serve our community here at Laurel Hill UMC!hf

The next time we will serve this way will be Tuesday, March 29th, 2016.

What about these last few days of 2015? What will you do that will prepare you for the year ahead?

  1. Forgive anyone that has offended you, hurt you or those you love, and carry no extra weight or burdens into 2016. Some may say, that is too difficult but I am asking you to forgive and live these last two days of the year free from carrying your wounds any further into the future. I pray that on the third day, January 1st – New Year’s Day you will be raised to newness of life – the old will have passed away and you will behold all things being made new.
  2. Live these last two days the way you want your first days to be in 2016. Don’t overindulge or complicate any situation but clean things up and put things in their proper place.
  3. Seek the Lord. Call upon Him while He is near. The time to get direction is before you head out. Ask for the Holy Spirit to be your GPS – the governing and prevailing source of all you do.

Be blessed and Happy New Year!

Wow! Our Thanksgiving Mission is almost ready for delivery.

I got so excited last night as I was led to the back part of the fellowship hall and saw the food that had been collected for our Thanksgiving Basket Mission. I saw the boxes that our children from the Weekday School had decorated and made special for each family.  I was blessed and encouraged as I heard how many people had helped already to bring items, organize them, and now get them ready for delivery.

Thanks to everyone for their contributions and help. thanksgivingboxes

A Quick Announcement for Our Mission Dinner & Auction

missionscommitteeAfter last might’s Mission Committee meeting and following much discussion, the decision was made to move this fall’s dinner and auction event to Spring 2016 (March 5, 2016). Find out how you can still help make “Blessings and Blossoms” an awesome and effective mission event by checking with one of the Committee members or talking to Bill Holmes or Peggy Singlemann.

For all who have been hard at work for this event please hold on to your items. It will still be good and fruitful labor for the kingdom.

Starting Over in September

caritas1September is a wonderful month. Our children are headed back to school. Football season is back. Yet, with all that is going on we are active in the work of the kingdom! We are finishing our summer and starting our fall in a dynamic way as we host the CARITAS families from August 29th – September 6th. During the month, you are invited to a special Community Worship service as our brothers and sisters down at Four Mile Creek Baptist Church welcome us to their 10:00 AM service on September 20th. Our choir will join with theirs as we lift our voices together in praise to the Living God!  That is also the second day of the UCI World Bicycle Championships. We welcome our visitors from around the world here on the 19th and the 20th to Varina.

You can find out more about that and more as you view our church Calendar and Newsletter for the month of September. uci1
