March through Lent

lentAs we begin the season of Lent on March 1st here at Laurel Hill UMC at 7:00 PM, I encourage you to make these days “a time of refreshing from the presence of the Lord”. (Acts 3: 19) Be immediate and active in your obedience and “let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10: 24 – 25)

To help you with this, here is our March newsletter and calendar! Don’t forget to get your tickets for our final Mission Auction and Dinner, set for March 11th. Craft rooms open at 4:30 PM. Dinner begins being served at 5:00 PM. Live Auction starts at 6:30 PM.

March 12th, the Kean University Choir will be our special guests during the 11:00 AM service.

The Virginia Choristers will be with us during the 11:00 AM service on March 26th and share a concert with us after lunch that day at 1:30 PM.

A Good Report

The Bible tells us we can rejoice in the Lord and we certainly can at Laurel Hill United Methodist Church. So many have helped us share our love for the mission and ministries to which God has called us, especially recently through our Mission Dinner and Auction. From those who donated items, to those who prepared them for display and auction, to those who served our meal, to those who decorated our tables, to those who auctioned the items, to those who gave without getting anything in return, we are so blessed and thankful for every soul.

In that same passage that encourages us to rejoice in the Lord, it also speaks about what we need to be thinking. So, I want to help you think about what is true, lovely, and brings forth a good report: after subtracting our expenses from all the proceeds and donations we received, we raised almost $7,500 for our mission and ministries!

Again, I say thanks to all who helped and a big, shout out of praise to the Lord from whom all blessings flow.MissionDinner2016

A Quick Announcement for Our Mission Dinner & Auction

missionscommitteeAfter last might’s Mission Committee meeting and following much discussion, the decision was made to move this fall’s dinner and auction event to Spring 2016 (March 5, 2016). Find out how you can still help make “Blessings and Blossoms” an awesome and effective mission event by checking with one of the Committee members or talking to Bill Holmes or Peggy Singlemann.

For all who have been hard at work for this event please hold on to your items. It will still be good and fruitful labor for the kingdom.
