“Laurel Hill, We Have a Problem… But It’s Getting Fixed.”

leaks4We finally got back into the church building after the snow and discovered we had snow come down on the inside of the church as well as outside. But, thanks to everyone for responding quickly and we hope limiting the eventual damage. Now, we work on fixing the problem.

Because of the clean up and drying out work that needs to be completed by the Richmond ServPro we will use our Fellowship Hall as our worship space this Sunday, January 31st. Come on and share in Sunday School as normal. Step over any chords you see in the hall or running from the classrooms and then come on downstairs as we worship together. Worship times remain the same- 8:45 AM and 11:00 AM.  See you Sunday!

A Time Set Apart for Prayer and Vision

James1.5This Saturday morning at Laurel Hill will be a time set apart for prayer and pursuing the vision of ministry God has for us. We’ll start with breakfast at 8:00 AM. Thanks to Doug Singlemann and other men of God for preparing this meal for us before we meet together. We will begin with a time of devotion and worship at 8:45 AM, preparing our hearts to hear from God and each other and then formally begin our focused time at 9:00 AM.

This is more than planning our calendar. This is a time of agreed upon focus and mission where we mark our year with the ministries we believe help us fulfill God’s holy purposes for Laurel Hill within the kingdom and within our community.

At 11:45 AM, we will share in Holy Communion to conclude this sacred time.

Finishing the Year Well

Yesterday, we had a wonderful group head down to Greater Mount Moriah Baptist Church to conduct our last Homeless Feeding for 2015. This is one of the ways we regularly serve our community here at Laurel Hill UMC!hf

The next time we will serve this way will be Tuesday, March 29th, 2016.

What about these last few days of 2015? What will you do that will prepare you for the year ahead?

  1. Forgive anyone that has offended you, hurt you or those you love, and carry no extra weight or burdens into 2016. Some may say, that is too difficult but I am asking you to forgive and live these last two days of the year free from carrying your wounds any further into the future. I pray that on the third day, January 1st – New Year’s Day you will be raised to newness of life – the old will have passed away and you will behold all things being made new.
  2. Live these last two days the way you want your first days to be in 2016. Don’t overindulge or complicate any situation but clean things up and put things in their proper place.
  3. Seek the Lord. Call upon Him while He is near. The time to get direction is before you head out. Ask for the Holy Spirit to be your GPS – the governing and prevailing source of all you do.

Be blessed and Happy New Year!

A Future and A Hope

happynewyearThe Lord knows it can be difficult to look ahead with hope and confidence when that way seems dark or uncertain or we’re still trying to catch up to where we are. This is why it is so good to be able to trust the Lord.  His plans for us are to graciously give us a future and a hope.

I hope we won’t waste any part of 2016 trying to cast our own future but will fully discern and follow the will of the Lord. Strong are the temptations of our flesh to elevate our own desires above the self denial Jesus commands for those who follow Him. The tug of complying with the world is persuasive for many but as Hebrews tells us, “we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.” (Hebrews 10: 39)

So, let 2016 be the year that in both mundane and mighty ways you demonstrate the faith God gives to save us!  As we move into 2016 together here is January’s Calendar and newsletter.

The Advent of Jesus

Advent-2015-PIN_focusThe song said, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”  And the song is right. Why is this the most wonderful time? Because Love is revealed from heaven. Salvation has come. God is with us – Emmanuel!  We can open the pages of the book and go to Bethlehem and see this One who is born King of the Jews and Lord of the Nations.

Best of all, we can worship Him! We can humble ourselves before Him, adore Him, set our hearts to follow Him and let His goodness and mercy follow us all the rest of our days.

Come, let us adore Christ the Lord together. Don’t miss a single opportunity this Advent season presents. Here is our Calendar.12.15 and our Newsletter12.15.
