March through Lent
As we begin the season of Lent on March 1st here at Laurel Hill UMC at 7:00 PM, I encourage you to make these days “a time of refreshing from the presence of the Lord”. (Acts 3: 19) Be immediate and active in your obedience and “let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10: 24 – 25)
To help you with this, here is our March newsletter and calendar! Don’t forget to get your tickets for our final Mission Auction and Dinner, set for March 11th. Craft rooms open at 4:30 PM. Dinner begins being served at 5:00 PM. Live Auction starts at 6:30 PM.
March 12th, the Kean University Choir will be our special guests during the 11:00 AM service.
The Virginia Choristers will be with us during the 11:00 AM service on March 26th and share a concert with us after lunch that day at 1:30 PM.
February’s Newsletter and Calendar
As I meditate on Sunday’s message, the prophet Jeremiah wakes us to the fact that there are usually three reasons why people take action. One is power. Two is pride. Three is principle. Power and pride are pursued to satisfy self. Principle is followed to satisfy a standard greater than self. Jeremiah lifts up the one standard for which we take action as Christians, one self-evident truth that moves us and propels us forward: The Lord is our Hope, our Savior in times of distress. (Jeremiah 14: 8)
We dare not stray from seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness first! We dare not look to any other person or thing to determine our future but in this leap year cast ourselves completely over to Jesus, our Lord and Christ.
Look for ways God’s Word can be settled and work powerfully in you each day of the month ahead. Read the Newsletter and keep up with things using the Calendar.
Mark your calendar especially for our Ash Wednesday Service at Willis United Methodist Church, February 10th at 7:00 PM and don’t forget that all of February is Heart Havens’ Month!
A Shared Preparation
Wednesday, February 18th, we will gather together with members of Willis UMC for our Ash Wednesday service. The service will begin at 7:00 PM at Willis United Methodist Church, 8360 Willis Church Rd, Henrico, VA 23231. Pastor Mark Rooks and all
