World Music of Love and Art
The 45-voice Concert Choir, 25-voice Chorale and 18-voice Men’s Choir are performing a most appealing and varied program entitled World Music of Love and Art. Classical selections include a world premiere of the Byron text “She Walks in Beauty” by Kean University’s Matthew Halper, a Russian chorus by Tcheschnokoff and several pieces from Handel’s Dettingen Te Deum. World music pieces will include Javier Busto’s popular habañera A tu lado, Dravidian Dithryramb, a lively Indian piece with two optional dancers, and some English madrigals by Morley and Wilbye. The program will conclude with several stirring Men’s Chorus pieces as well as a lively spiritual by Moses Hogan. The entire program will be less than an hour and fifteen minutes, and is part of a weeklong tour from New Jersey to Florida.
The Kean University Concert Choir and Chorale hail from Union, NJ, and have achieved accolades for their passionate and disciplined performances with orchestra, including Fauré Requiem, Bach Cantata BWV 106 and Mozart Requiem, K. 626. On tour, the choir received a standing ovation for their performance of Orff’s Carmina Burana at Montréal’s Chapelle historique du Bon Pasteur (2009), and have received acclaim for their performances at Newark’s Cathedral Basilica (2011), the Candlelight Concert Series at historic Bruton Parish Church in Colonial Williamsburg, VA (2007 and 2011), and Salem (MA) State College (2010). Kean University is a NJ state university with a student population of 15,000 and a Music Department of 104 majors.
